DESPATCH OF GOODS.

Mrs G. C. Petersen (convener) presided over a meeting of the Lady Galway Guild, yesterday' afternoon. Associated with her were Mesdames A. E. Manslord (president), A. S. Orr (secretary) and W. H. Galbraith (secretary of the Women’s Patriotic Committee)'. t j Mrs Mansford proposed that the permission of the Patriotic Committee be asked to spend money 7 on cleaning garments and this was carried. Mrs Petersen reported that Mrs H. Atmore, women’s national service organiser, and Mrs Pow, a member of the Lady Galway Guild executive, had visited the workroom during the month. Eight cases of goods had been despatched ; since the last meeting, making a total of 1C cases and 2764 garments. Yesterday morning the seventeenth case had been packed. Mrs AY. Boswell (Oroua Downs Women’s Institute) had collected two cases of old and new clothing and material for re-making. The knitting and hussifs branch had sent in four hot-water bag covers and two knitted quilts, and one quilt had been received from the Russell Street School. The Aokautero Women’s Institute sent two boxes of clothing. Mrs Harris (Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild) had returned boys’ trousers ancl girls’ skirts made from I men’s cream trousers and returned clothing, beautifully 7 made up, also one box of baby 7 clothing. Parcels had been received Irom Mesdames Looser and Kelly. Thanks were due to Mr Fleming for the loan of a large table for the duration of the war. All the parcels received in the postmen’s drive were now in the workroom.

The secretary of the Lady Galway Guild (Wellington) acknowledged the receipt of further cases of goods. The directors of the C. M. Ross Co. advised that their staff of 65 girls had divided themselves into two parties to work on alternate Tuesdays. Mrs Petersen explained that the staff from Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame s and Madame Cowan’s and other business girls cmuc on Monday nights. Appreciation of this help was expressed. Mrs Mansiord said the City Council had installed excellent lights in the workroom. Mrs Petersen said it was hoped to send a baby’s complete layette occasionally in the cases. Mrs Mansford brought forward a suggestion that the guild co-operate with the parcels, knitting and shop branches of the Patriotic Committee in holding a flower day. Since the suggestion was first made it had been proposed that the proceeds be devoted to the local rehabilitation and distress fund instead of the guild and the committee. The public would be caked on to subscribe generously to this fund and it would be unfair, she considered, to ask for other contributions The suggestion was approved. Mrs Orr said that Mrs Pow had praised the workroom and the standard of goods and had promised that the cases would not be disturbed in Wellington. Mrs Petersen said she had heard that no cases had been opened in Wellington after the first three. Special thanks were due to the Townswomen’s Guild for their splendid work; Mrs Barraud. for the loan of a machine; Mrs K. Manning, for an electric machine; the Economic Bag Wash, the 'cleaning firms of the city and the Palmerston North laundry staff; to the ladies who mended, remade and pressed the goods sent in.
