VITAL DISCUSSIONS.
WITH BRITISH AMBASSADOR. (Rec. 11 a.ra.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 Admiral Richardson met Colonel Knox, who announced that “routine reports of the fleet were received, the situation in the Pacific, and matters pertaining to the expansion hitherto of the naval establishment were discussed.” Admiral Richardson plans to remain in Washington for several days. The British Ambassador (Lord Lothian) conferred with the Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) and afterwards indicated that the whole of the Far Eastern situation had been discussed at length. Lord Lothian did not divulge the details, but said he had not yet been advised officially of Britain's decision to reopen the Burma Road. The Australian Minister (Mr R. L. Casey) visited Mr Sumner Welles (As-sistant-Secletary of State).
