MANAWATU CLUB. At the Manawatu Golf Club’s links at the week-end the annual competition for the Lionel Abraham Cup was held. The competition is decided on handicap, beginning with a medal round which reduced, the field to 16. Then there was an 18-holo bogey round, the winner to hold the cup. The winner proved to be J. Cowan, who scored well in the bogey handicap. There waa a large entry, the course was in splendid- condition and tho weather most favourable.

The following are the cards of the sixteen players who qualified : G. Robertson, 81 —10—71; J. Moffitt, 86 —15 —7l; It. L. Harding, 85—13—72; J. Cowan, 91—18 —-73; O. A. Collis, 96 22—74; J. K. McManus, 90—16—74; M. Church, 84 —-10—74; J. S. Shand, 83—9—74; M. A. Ongley, 83—9—74; E. Christmas, 94—20—74; N. Grant. 83—9—74; H. E. Turner, 92—17—75; C. G. Moore, 80 —5 —75; F. J. King, 89—14—75; J. Turner, 83—8—75. The leading cards in the bogey handicap were: J. Cowan, 3 up; F. J. King, R. L. Harding, 1 up; My Church, square; J. Moffitt, J. K. McManus, 1 down; G. Robertson, 2 down; E. Christmas, 3 down. King and Harding played on to decide who should be runner-up, and the winner was King.

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. Lew mark players from tho Palmerston North Golf Club figured prominently in the Wanganui championship. F. \V. Ward and D. Harkness both showed their merits in t'he qualifying rounds; both covered the course in 75 (two over par), but slipped to 81 and 83 respectively, finishing two and four strokes behind the leader —a very creditable performance. Stiff opposition was met in the first and second rounds. Ward went out in the first round to V. B. Haworth, a big hitting lefthander, and Harkness to D. C. Collins, a hard and seasoned player, in the 'second round. Ward and Harkness meet in the final of the club efiampions'fiip. Both are at the top of their lorm and one of the best finals in the history of the club should be witnessed. The Awatapu links were playing faster than usual during the week-end, and this resulted in some excellent scoring being carded. In the A grade medal handicap E. Pink headed the list with a net 69, meaning, of course, a reduction in handicap. K. Dawkins, with a net 70, will also need a little adjustment. A. Kennedy, in the B grade, returned a net 66 (88 gross) and this is another job for the handicapper. In a bogey match 1 up, square, and seven cards of 1 down were handed in.
