CHESS MATCH.
The closing evening of the Woodvillc Chess Club was held on Saturday, when a tournament was held between a team from Palmerston North and a combined Woodvillc and Pahiatua team. The play resulted in a win for, Palmerston North by eight games to five. Results were as follow, Palmerston North players being mentioned firftt: Harper beat Mills, 'R. Christiansen drew with Morris, H. Christiansen lost to Salter, Reifer beat Schaw. York beat Carruthers, Williams drew with Sinclair, Burton lost to Carthew, Coliins boat Hartridge, Brill beat Toomcy, L. Christiansen beat H. P. . Horne, Craig beat T. Smith, E. Harding (Woodville) lost to Potereon, Rowe (Woodville) boat Thompson. Cups wore presented as follow by the president (Mr E. J. Harding); Championship Cup and Gambit Rook, won by 0. C. Morris; Handicap Tournament Cup, E. J. Harding. At the conclusion of die tournament Messrs York and Carthow, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the homo club Sor the emcK-ainment .The Woodville president thanked the visitors for their attendance. A presentation was made to Mr Rowe for hie work in the recent telegraphic match between. Woodville and Waipukurau.
