HIGH CASTE WINS EPSOM.

BEAULIVRE INCIDENT MOST UNPRECEDENTED.

SYDNEY, Oct, 6.

.New Zealand horses were right in the picture at tlie opening day of the Randtvick spring meeting held in ideal spring weather on Saturday. An unprecedented incident happened in the Epeom Handicap, when Bcaulivre, who was one of the most fancied candidates for yeans, was suddenly pulled up when in a winning position a furlong from home. His jockey, D. Munro, explained that he thought Bcaulivre had broken down irretrievably. He dismounted ait the post. However, Beaulivrc walked satisfactorily to the enclosure, and looked quite well. lie was later examined by a veterinary surgeon, who reported that “Beaulivre, when cooled off, disclosed no injury or abnormality.” A huge circlo of Bcauiivrc’s admirers was chagrined by the untoward happening. With Bcaulivre out of the way, High Caetc ran on to a well-deserved Epsom victory. High Caste stripped thoroughly fit for the Epsom, and left the course quite sound.

The A.J.C. Derby, won by Pendcct. saw Nightbeam unruly at the pest, finally twisting the plate on hie near-. foreleg. He had to be taken back to the saddling paddock, where the plalc was adjusted, causing a delay of eighteen minutes at the start of the Derby in which ho van a great race, but faded out in the straight. Bcaulivre looked all over a win-ner-approaching the home turn, whore he was challenged by High Caste, who, closely attended by Mildura, overtook Bcaulivre and, in the race to the. post, High Caste just won by a neck amid great excitement. The excellent lime was 1.353.
