HEARING OF APPEALS

MAN-POWER COMMITTEE.

MANAWATU PERSONNEL

The names of some of the members of the No. 6A Area (Manawatu district) Man-Power Advisory Committee were announced to-day. Mr T. L. Seddon, Mayor of Feilding, will be chairman, and Mr G. A. Monk, of Waikanae, deputy-chairman. One of the members is Air W. G. Black, of Palmerston North, and his deputy is Air J. C. Young, of Palmerston North. The remaining member of the committee and his deputy have yet to be appointed. Mr Seddon, who, incidentally, was drawn in the recent military service ballot, was originally chairman of the Wanganui Alan-Power Committee, but his position was changed as he was required for the Manawatu Committee. The nominal strength of the committee is three, but each of the three permanent members must have a deputy, who will sit on the committee only when required to deputise. Until the third member of the local committee is appointed it is not known when a start can be made'with the hearing of appeals against service lodged by men drawn in this week’s ballot, or by their employers. In the meantime, further appeals have been lodged at the offices of the local committee. Ten were received by post this morning, making a total of 18 since the ballot was drawn. CHANGES AT WANGANUI.

Changes have been made in the personnel of the Wanganui District Man-Power Advisory Committee. Air F. Purnell, Alayor of Alarton, has been appointed chairman, succeeding Air Seddon. Air J. J. Scott, DeputyMayor of Wanganui, is to be deputychairman of the Wanganui Committee. Mr F. W. Gould, president of the Wanganui Trades and Labour Council, is still on the committee, and so is Air D. G. O’Toole, president of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce.
