LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
ROLL-CALL AFTERNOON. A roll-call of items contributed by members formed the programme at the October meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers, yesterday. The Empire Hall was decorated with spring flowers, and Mrs A. C. McPherson, who presided over a good attendance, welcomed Mrs E. Hosking as a member. A sponge cake competition was judged by Mrs Steverson and won by Mrs F. Lucas, the prize being donated by Mrs J. Barsanti. Mrs Skinner was second, receiving a prize given by Mrs Duffin. Mrs Steverson was thanked for her services. A “bring and buy” stall conducted by Mesdames H. Drake and Anderson was highly successful. The sum of £3 11s being raised. Items wore , given by the singing circle, conducted by Mrs 0. Christiansen and accompanied by Mrs C. Grover; Mrs Fowles, recitations; Mesdames Lyons and Bird, vocal duets, accompanied by Mrs Grover. Mrs Nicholls gave the happy thought, and short talks in the roll-call were given by Mesdames F. O'Connor (“Travel in India”), Garner (“Tales”) and Captain Christopher, of tho Salvation Army (“Undistracted Hearts”). Airs Macpherson thanked the speakers and Mrs Stubbs thanked the entertainers and tea hostesses. The latter were Mesdames Broughton, Buddcn, Barsanti, Beatson, Butler, Bennett, Bavliss, Bergstrom, K. Clark, A. Clark, M. A. Clarke, Chamberlain, Cross, Crawford, Cnnper, Cribb, Cooksley, Coleman, WChild and Candy.
Members were reminded of their turn in charge of the patriotic shop.
