DEFENCE OF LEGITIMATE RIGHTS

CHUNGKING, Oet. 1. Under no circumstances will China recognise Japanese leadership in the establishment of the so called Greater Asia, nor will she ever recognise the validity, of the “New Order,” declares an official statement issufd here ill connection, with the',tripartite pact. The statement adds: “T'he pact clearly seeks to invalidate the legitimate rights of third Rowers both in Europe and Asia —a policy against which China has always striven. The pact can never affect China’s position and her legitimate rights, nor can it ever tend to affect the policy of China’s National Government.”

Their sentences will be announced later. The Japanese Embassy in London has ordered 750 Japanese residents in Britain to evacuate as soon as possible. The measure is not related to the. aggravation relations between Britain and Japan following the conclusion of the tripartite pact, but is caused by tile danger confronting the Japanese residents, particularly those in the London area. Official circles in Berlin have been saying that the Axis pact has created a * situation which, makes- necessary fresh conversations with Russia. The Nazis are hinting that either Herr von Ribbentrop will be going to Moscow or M. Molotov -will be going to Berlin. There is no word of any such visit by M- Molotov. | I
