RONGOTEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEAj Sepr. 25

Tho Rongotca branch of the AV/D.F. U. is an “up and doing” institution, and the activities of its members embrace a greater range than is apparent from tho brief reports of its monthly meetings. The reasons for joining aro no doubt varied; some may be desirous of exchanging ideas, or to enjoy one another’s company; but the results work out in co-operative ways for the common good, and tho steadily increasing enrolment and attendance at meetings are sufficient evidence that rural women attach considerable importance to membership in this organisation. The September meeting was held on Tuesday, when Mrs AV. J. Davis presided, and, following the recital of the Creed, extended a welcome to all present. Apologies for absence were received from. Mesdames Dear, 11. tkott, McKenzie, Thompson and Armitage. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs Giles, and Air A. Jessop was carried, members standing in silence. The secretary (Alls N. E. Rowe) read the minutes of the previous meeting. The following new members joined: Mesdames Eerrier, Grady, L. Duker and O’Connor, and Misses Patricia and Eileen Rowe. A letter from the local Patriotic Committee was read, asking for the appointment of two members to represent the AAID.F.U. on the committee. Mesdames Davis and A. Simonsen were elected. ' A contribution of several tins of biscuits from Mrs Glover, senr., for soldiers overseas was gratefully received, as was also a donation of 12 sacks of pine cones from Airs H. Ilamlin, to be sold for the Patriotic Fund. Afternoon lea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames AA'enborn. . Glover, E. Gust, Simonsen, llickford and Valleuder. Mrs N. Rowe gave another of her very interesting talks on first aid. After a period of serious ill-health Air A. Trenkncr has, unfortunately. had to enter a private hospital in Palmerston North to undergo a further operation. Ilis friends wish him a speedy and perinanent recovery. A local farmer had tho experience of seeing an unseasonable, - but excellent crop of mushrooms in his paddocks this week.
