ADELAIDE, Sept. 5. The Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Men-, zies), addressing a gathering of 600 leading citizens, described the transfer of the fifty American destroyers to Britain, - together with the leasing of the British naval and air bases in the Atlantic zone to the United States, as the most important event in recent months., He added: “It might very well mean the turning point of the war and the defeat of the enemy.” Mr Menzies warned his hearers not to expect “some kind of full-blooded alliance between Australia and America any day.”
