BIG BOXING PURSE.
CALTAUX v. HUTCHINSON. The purse of £l5O for the winner of the Ilutehinson-Caltaux boxing bout at Palmerston North to-morrow night is the largest purse to have been fought for in New Zealand during the past 10 years. Tho impressive showing of Johnny Hutchison, the brilliant American negro welterweight, in tho work-out with J. Sharpo on AVcdnosday night has given his reputation a fillip among those privileged to sec it. Ills boxing record is in itself a remarkable one, and his matching witli 1 G’altaux, champion of New Zealand’s welterweights, should provide a memorable bout worth going a lohg way to see. Tho Manawatu Boxing Association has a reputation for matching the right class of boxers./ and it should bo accorded strong support for its enterprise in arranging this bout and offering such a handsome purse. Final arrangements for the five amateur preliminaries have been completed, the matchings being between boys who can bo depended on to give a good account of themselves. The box plan, which is at Collinson and Cunninghamo’s, is boing rapidly filled so immediate booking is advisable. Caltaux and his trainer-manager, Mr Charles Linden, have arrived in Palmerston North.
