ARCAS SPRINGS SURPRISE. An outsider Areas scored a comfortable victory in the open distance event., the Marangi Handicap, in which the favourite, Royal Star 11, failed after being well placed for most of the race. Royal Star II started best but Areas ran to the front after the first furlong and maintained that position. Royal Star II followed, leading the others. With ■ a quarter of a mile to go Colonel Bogey came through on the rails to be with the leaders, and Dainty Sheila was also handy Areas went on in the lead turning into the straight with Royal Star II falling back.
