ENEMY INTERNEES.

REMOVAL FROM BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) Received August 14, 11 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 13. Replying to a questioner in the House of Commons, who asked for particulars of the Government’s action with respect to the sending of refugees and internees overseas. The Lord Privy Seal (Mr C. It. Attlee) said that, in view of the new strategic situation resulting from the German occupation of the Low Countries and Northern France, the Government had decided early in June in the interests of national security that it would be desirable to transfer a number of enemy aliens interned in Britain overseas. It considered the general danger which might arise from an attempted invasion of Britain of having a large number of enemy aliens concentrated in a number of camps in this country. A total of 9120 Austrians, Germans and Italians were, therefore, sent to Canada and Australia.
