ELECTRIC POWER
MANAWATU-OROUA BOARD. INCREASED SALES. The monthly. meeting of the Manavvatu-Oroua Power Board was held yesterday, when those present were Messrs J. Boyce (chairman), J. A. Nash, M. A. Eliott, W. McKay, J. H. Mason, P. G. Guy, W.. P. Bickers, W. G. Shannon, N. Campbell, C. G. C. Dermer and L. Hogg. The managing-secretary (Air K. W. Eglinton) submitted the following statement of accounts:—Time payment, installation and sales: Sales for tiie month amounted to £462 12s; total collections, £G49 Is 9d; amount outstanding, £5465 14s Bd. Sales of current : Total sales for, three months, 1940. £34,697 Is 2d; sales for three months, 1939, £28,526 19s 3d; increase, £6170 Is lid. Cost of power: Total cost for three months, 1940, £17,415; for three months, 1939, £15,262 10s; increase, £2152 10s. The increase in the sales must he considered highly satisfactory, especially comparing the increased cost of power. Bank balances: Power fund, £10.224 13s 9d; loan account, £4124 6s sd. The report of the engineer (Mr W. A. Waters) stated that the 11.000 volt extension at Siberia had been completed. Work lias been commenced on the new tic lino at Longburn. One gang lias been continuously engaged in the Feilding borough. On the TaonuiColyton Road a new -transformer has been erected to cope with increased load. The following new. consumers were given a supply during the month : Lighting and heating, 10; ranges, 7; water heaters, 29; milking motors. 16; other motors, 19: industrial motors (1 temporary), 1 : additions to existing installations, 70 ; total, 154. A petition was received from Mr F. R. Jones and eight other residents on the Raumai, Pohangina and Midland Roads, agreeing to pay a yearly guarantee of £2O per consumer and asking that the power lines be extended_ to serve their properties.—The application is to be forwarded to the controlling authority for permission to distal the lines and an estimate of the cost is to be obtained.
