LATEST NIGHT RAIDS. LONDON, Aug. 12. The Air Ministry announces that a bomber-was shot down on the SouthEast Coast shortly before midnight. Little serious damage resulted from last.night’s widespread raids, which extended ‘ from North-East to SouthWest England. . , A later Air Ministry bulletin states that German aircraft bombed a number of places last night. Incendiary bombs started fires in a north-eastern town and also on a moorland, but they were soon extinguished. No serious casualties resulted in this area. High explosive bombs in the Midlands’ caused some damage to houses and a few casualties, one of which proved fatal. Bombs damaged a sig-nal-box in a south-western railway yard. Another bomb in this area fell near an air raid shelter in which there were a number of persons, one of whom was seriously injured. Isolated bombers slightly damaged gas* l and electricity mains in eastern and south-eastern districts. More raiders were reported over Wales and South-West and North-East England toward midnight, A piano was in the vicinity when early to-day a loud explosion shook a coastal area in Northern Ireland. Heavy anti-aircraft fire drove ott raiders this morning from the NorthEast English coast. A plane had dropped two bombs on the outskirts of a town, and others fell in the sea without causing damage. Raiders, after hovering over a southwestern town for some time, dropped half a dozen bombs in quick succession, severely damaging houses in the residential section. A bomb crashed through the roof of a convent and another landed in- a cemetery. Farm buildings were damaged near a Welsh town. Bombs fell in the suburbs of a North-East Coast town, also two towns in the south-east.
