SUNK IN ATLANTIC.
BRITISH TRANSPORT. Received August 12. 11.40 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. Tlie Admiralty announces that tlye transport Moll a mod Ali El Kebir (7290 tons) lias been torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic. Eight hundred and sixty were aboard, of whom 740 liavo been saved and landed. VESSEL SUNK. Received August 12, 8.5 a.m. STOCKHOLM, Aug. 10. ' The Toran (3318 tons) has been sunk by an explosion. Three members of the crew were killed and the remaining 27 landed.
A Madrid message says the Vassilios Destounis was found abandoned 40 miles from Aviles (on the . north coast of Spain). A trawler put a crew aboard and endeavoured to bring the vessel to port.
TANKER RESCUED. , SAILORS’ BRAVERY. LONDON, Aug. 10. The gallantry of live sailors brought an unnamed British tanker safely to port. A U-boat torpedoed the tanker, which listed heavily. The captain ordered the crews to the boats, but remained aboard with four others. They made their way through wreckage to the valves, and brought the tanker to an even keel.
The submarine thereupon started shelling, but the sailors manned tlieir gun and forced the U-boat to submerge. The remander of the crew were picked up and the voyage was continued.
