MANAWATU CLUB. On Saturday the August stroke competition was played on the Manawatu Golf Club’s links at Hokowhitu in perfect conditions. The course was iri first-class order. A. G. Cliff won the A Grade competition when he returned a gross score of 78 and an 8 handicap. A. 0. Collis won the B Grade with a net 71. The leading cards were: A Grade.—A. G. Cliff, 78—8—70; G. Stubbs, 87—16—71; H. G. Bagnall, 87— F. J. King, 88—14—74; J. S. Shand, 84 —9 —75; R. N. Collis, 88— J. K. McManus. 91—16 75; A. M. Johns, 80—4—76; W. T. Duckworth. 89—13 —70; E. R. The following are additional ‘matches played in the club championship: A. G. Cliff beat K. S. Glendinning; C. G. Moore heat J. W. Denby; E. R. Wimsett beat J. M. Taylor. Playing against Glendinning, Cliff proved too strong for his opponent. The former club champion could not find touch with his putter and it was in this department that Cliff beat him. Recording a. round of 74, one over par. C. G. Moore had an easy win against J. W. Denby. Moore had a 2 at the short ninth to be out in 36. On the homeward journey he had three putts on the ]4th green and was home in 38. His card read:—Out: 4 4 4 3 6 6 5 3 2—36. In: 4 4 3 5 5 4 4 5 4—38. Total, 74. N. Amon was also in fine form during the week-end and he was round in 73. Members of the Buckley Golf Club at the week-end played a combined fourball Stahleford competition which was won by D. Leng-Ward and H. Stern with 68 points. A combined fourball medal competition was won by H. Pope and G. McSweeney with a score of 143 net. The players who are left to contest the semi-finals of the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup are E. T. "Wilson, D. Hill, D. Leng-Ward and G. l|[oS\veeney.
