SEAMAN PETER WASS. FORMER PALMERSTONIAN. Ordinary Seaman Peter Thomas V 7 ass, who was one of three casualties in the New Zealand Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve announced bn “Wednesday, the first to he suffered by this division, was a son of Mr T. Wass, of Auckland, and formerly' of Palmerston North. He was 19 years of age.
Seaman "NYass was educated at the Palmerston North Convent and later at Sacred Heart College, Auckland. He was keenly interested in yachting and sailed in tile last Sanders Cup trials at Auckland in his own boat, the Endeavour. He joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve prior to the outbreak of war and when the declaration of war came immediately sought to be sent overseas for service. For three months before his departure with the Second Echelon in May he was engaged in a course of instruction at the Devonport Naval base. Seaman Wass. who was well-known in Palmerston North, was a nephew of Mr and Mrs A. H.- Mathias, of Fitzlierbert Avenue. He was engaged on an armed naval trawler with the .Royal Navy in British waters; Much sympathy will bo extended to his parents in their bereavement.
