MODERN PALESTINE.
“Palestine in the Light of Prophecy” was tile subject of an interesting address'given to a large audience in the Gospel Hall. Main Street, last night, by Mr S. A. Burnham, F.R.G.S. The speaker referred to the formation of the Zionist movement, which held its first conference in Paris in 1897, as an important step in the realising of the vision of a national home in Palestine. He said that in Jeremiah, Chapter 16, verses 14-15, the prophet spoke of the regathering of Israel out of the north and showed that the persecutions in Gerrhany and Poland were, forcing Jews from the north to settle in their own land. The remarkable progress of towns in Palestine within recent years was dealt with by Mr Burnham, and lie also described such matters of interest as the port of Haifa and the resources of the Dead Sea, illustrating his remarks with lantern' slides.
