BINOCULARS FOR TROOPS.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. An appeal for binoculars, nightglasses, and telescope and prismatic compasses for the Armed Forces has been made by Hon. F. Jones. In asking the public to make a contribution, the Minister said he felt the people would be very -willing to give up valuable, perhaps even treasured, possessions for so vital a cause as the defence of the country and Commonwealth. Optical glasses were largely manufactured iu Germany, and the greatlyincreased need for them by -the British Armed Forces was more than the productive capacity of the United Kingdom and the United States could cope with. At present in New Zealand enough glasses could not be obtained for all .requirements. The Minister asked that glasses should be sent to the QuartermasterGeneral, care Ordnance Department, Trentham, or so addressed to any Defence Office in New Zealand.
