WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

At a meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Federation or Aomen's Institutes, Miss M. Grant presided, also present being Mesdames AVaringTaylor and J. Easton (Shannon). T. IX Lynch (Linton), W. M. McClelland (Tvairanga), D. Scott (Aokautero), W. Churchill and T. Collins (Rongotea.), E. Dymock (Milson). Mrs F. McKay, voluntary organiser (Rongotea) was also present. There was an apologv. for absence from’Mrs H. V. Caverhiil and sympathy with her in her illness was expressed. Mrs Caverhiil is in a private hospital in Palmerston North. Notification was received from headquarters regarding a school for vnlun tary organisers to be held at Woodville at the end of the month, Mesdames Taylor, Lynch. McKay and Collins expressing their desire to attend. The school will be conducted bv Mrs D. Ricgi, of Maraototnra, and Miss 0. Woltcrs, of Carterton. Institute reports of special efforts were considered and Linton’s “hen and egg” drive for funds, realising over £5. was considered the best.

The financial statement was presented by Mrs Collins, and several amounts acknowledged. Mrs Lynch asked that appreciation of the work for the movement of Mrs A. McCorkindale and Miss Grant, as members of the Dominion executive, be placed on record, and a letter is to be sent to Mrs McCorkindale to this effect. Mrs Lynch presented a comprehensive, report of the recent Dominion Council meeting. Members were asked to ' give thought to the project for arranging holidays for the children of soldiers on active service, a suggestion being made that hospitality members bo appointed in eacli institute. . . In accordance with a previous decision plans were made lor a drama competition. Mrs Dymock reported on hospital visiting, a duty that is cheerfully undertaken by Milson members. A sum of money was voted for comforts, and appreciation is to be expressed to the Milson members for this useful serArrangements ior the lia.lf-yeaily council meeting to be held at Kauwhata were advanced. Mrs Poananga is to be asked to arrange for her Maori members to provide the programme.
