APPEASING STALIN.
POLISH AREAS AS BRIBE. REPORTED HITLER PLAN. LONDON. July 30. It is reported that Hitler is contemplating offering Russia a large part of German-occupied Poland, including the Warsaw. Lublin and Lodz districts. If true, this would be intended to persuade Russia to cease thrusting forward in the Balkans, and to tolerate an extension of German influence in Rumania. Above all, it Would be aimed at preventing an extension of the war to the Balkans. Diplomatic opinion is divided on whether Hitler would seriously hope to make a reliable bargain with Stalin after the latter’s unheralded and disconcerting moves in Poland, the Baltic States, and Rumania.'
