INDIES PREPARED
FOR JAPANESE THREAT. POWERFUL DEFENCES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 3, 9 a.m. MELBOURNE, Aug.2. According to a Dutch rubber official, Mr J. A. Schiotling, from Sarawak, wbo arrived from Java aboard a cargo vessel to-day, Japan is expected to attempt tbe penetration, of tbe Dutch East Indies. Mr Schiotling commented that such, an attempt would meet with little success, as a powerful army, well-trained and thoroughly vigilant, was ready to deal with the invader. The utmost precautions had been taken to cope with air raids. Mr Schiotling added that the coastline was bristling with shore batteries.
