EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
At a meeting of the Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, last evening, members heard addresses by Messrs AV. H. Burgess, Dominion vice-president, and G. It. Ashbridge, Dominion secretary. Mr Burgess dealt with the work of the executive in AA r eliington, and spoke of the teachers’ provident fund, in which he said £llOO was owing in subscriptions Mr E. Bury said that in this fund more money should have been given by way of grants than by loans. Mr Burgess also spoke of the recent great improvement in relations between the Education Department and teachers. Mr Ashbridge dealt with the law as it affected teachers in their work, and the legal rights they possessed in this connection, giving numerous examples of cases. which might arise. On the motion of Mr H. AA r Jack son, seconded by Miss G. Gosmill, the speakers were accorded thanks Mr A E. R. Johliu, president of the branch, presided.
