WHAKARONGO.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKAIiONGO, Aug. 3. At the monthly meeting of the Manawatu Labour Representation Committee, in the absence of Mr A. Carroll, the vicepresident (Mr 1). Sanson) occupied the chair. A motion to alter the monthly meeting to a. three-monthly one was defeated. Correspondence from the head office and the Ashhurst branch was dealt with. As the Whakarongo B basketball team had a bye recently they had a game ori the local courts against a team from the Convent High School, who were defeated by 13 goals to 10. At a meeting of the Drama Club plays were read and the team which is taking a play to Aokautere had a practise. At the recent euchre party, the winners were Mrs S. Albert 1. Mrs Puklowski 2; Mr N. Clinton 1, Mr R. Gore, senr., 2; consolation, Mrs Hendrickson and Mr R. Gore, junr. There have been many cases of influenza in this district, though the weather has been remarkably mild; Mcsdames A. Harrowfield, W. Byers and Clark are undergoing treatment in hospital, and Miss F. Lynch is ill at home. The first day of spring found the district experiencing the best of conditio - * for (lio lambing season, and plum trees are well in blossom. However, somt residents are experiencing a shortage of water.
