PRINCE STARHEMBERG.
ARRIV.AL IN ENGLAND.
Prince Ernst von Starhemberg of Austria is reported to have arrived in England this week. It will he recalled that Prince Starhemberg was formerly leader of the Heimwehr and became prominent during and before the anschlus6 with Germany. In 1933, in the wake, of the anti-demoeratic wave in Austria, the Catholic Partv decided to take up the struggle against National (Socialism and Socialism, and the* Heimwehr army became invaluable to them. It was used to support the regular forces in the ’violent suppression of the Socialists and in the fighting with the Nazis in 1934. To this army, Prince Starhemberg owed life political power. For a time, as Vice-Chancellor, he had . a half-share in the dual dictatorship with Karl von Schusch.iligg, which he gained after the murder of Dr. Dolfuss. Later the Heimwehr faded from the scene. Prince Starhemberg was a Fascist and is reported to have accepted aid from Italy. From Austria Starhemberg went' to live in France near the Italian border, and in the presentwar he threw in his lot with the French. Ho offered to form an Austrian Legion, and later was gazetted a lieutenant in the French Army. i
