ST. DAVID’S TENNIS CLUB.
The St. David’s Lawn Tennis Club met last week to farewell their president (Mr A. Holmes) and his wife, who are leaving for Hawera. Mr Holmes is on the permanent staff of the Army Department, aud has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. There was a good attendance‘of mem- f, bers and friends. Items were given , by Mrs F. McLachlan (songs) and Mr K. Loveday (pianoforte solo) and were much appreciated. The vice-pre-sident (Mr L. Morine) took the opportunity of thanking Mr and ' Mrs Holmes for the wonderful help they had accorded the club during their many years of association with it. He - congratulated Mr Holmes on his promotion and wished him and his wife the very best of luck in their new home. Rev. R. Warnock also expressed,- ‘ thanks and congratulations on behalf of the church, in the activities •of which Mr and Mrs Holmes had always taken a keen interest, especially among the young people! : Mr Morine presented Mr and Mrs Holmes with a handsome leather fire screen, which was suitably engraved. Mr Holmes thanked those present for their kind thoughts, and said that his memories of Palmerston North would always, be most pleasant. He also wished the club success under its., new president. •> V
