CAPTURED SCOTS.

FACED MURDEROUS FIRE. Received June 15, 12.28 p.m. , LONDON, June 17. An eye-witness with the B.E.F. says British soldiers are rolling up French roads towards the Seine and have now made contact with the Germans. Their determination to speed on to victory has been intensified by the news of the capture of part of a Scottish division yesterday. This division was rushed up from the south and given a. front of 24 miles, whereas normally it should hold six miles. Nevertheless, it attacked at dawn in conjunction with French tanks.'- The Germans lay low and allowed the tanks _to pass through. The Scots followed confidently, but were suddenly met with a murderous fire from machine-guns and trench mortars, inflicting very heavy losses. The Scots, particularly the Camerons and Seaforth Highlanders, drove on and gained many objectives, but the most supreme courage was no match for the scorching fire and power of the enemy support;/. by divabombing. The advance in the teeth oi such opposition was incredible, but retreat and capture were inevitable for the .great part of the division.
