PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Takaro Progressive Association was held this week, those present being Messrs E. H. Smith (chairman), J. W. Spooner, S. J. A. Busst, E. B. Borham, -H. Wykes «enr., A. D. Barkwith, J. H. Cribb (lion, secretary), Mesdames J. W. Spooner, E. Lyall, R. Packer, E. C. Hammond, and S,. J. A. Busst. Before commencing the business the chairman moved a motion of sympathy to Mr Scott, of Lyndhurst Street, in the loss of his wife; also to Mr Cribb in the recent death of his father. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mr J. Wass., of Chelwood Street, on his having to enter hospital, hopes for his speedy recovery being expressed. The chairman expressed the view that the Recruiting Committee would not now be necessary, as recent legislation by the Government would probably do away with the need for it. .Correspondence from the City Council, advising that the association’s request for an additional bus to leave Takaro at 1.50 p.m. had been granted, was received. It was decided to thank the council for this additional service, which was much appreciated. An invitation to attend Miss E. J. Connell’s lecture on Libraries, was also received. Owing to an error in the report of the annual meeting which read that it was decided to exclude Pascal Street from the association, residents had naturally been disturbed, it was stated. Previous to the meeting, the association had been approached to include in its activities that area between Pascal Street and Rangitikei Street, but as no representatives from this area area were present at the it was decided to take no further action. As some residents of Pascal Street were foundation members of the as-, sociation, it was decided to communicate with Pascal Street residents explaining the error. . Application for a ball was received from the Girls’ Basketball ' .Club, and lit was decided to purchase one and extend best wishes for the season. Final arrangements for the annual reunion were discussed; the social sub-com-mittee reported favourable progress. Mrs Hammond and Mrs Borham kindly donated prizes; Mr • Spooner donated milk. As the net proceeds were to be devoted to patriotic purposes it was hoped the attendance would be good. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) wrote stating that both Mrs Mansford and himself were pleased to accept the association’s invitation to be present. It was pleasing to note, it was stated, that footpaths in the district were being repaired, giving a tidy appearance. Progress reports on the annual canvass for members were very | satisfactory, giving every indication that the previous year’s high tot)al would be reached on completion.: Preliminary arrangements for this year’s Jamieson Cup competition were discussed,-.it being hoped residents would again enter into the spirit, of the competition. •/
