DEFINITE PROGRESS.

EFFORT FOR PRODUCTION. INTERVIEWS WITH. FARMERS. Farmers who have been interviewed individually at the Winter Show, as the outcome of the establishment of a stall there by the State Placement Service, have given a gratifying response to the call for increased production. While the number has not been ■ large, a commencement has been made ,and Mr E. W. Nicolaus, of the head office of the Social Security Department (registration branch). Wellington, said to a “Manawate Standard” reporter yesterday that he was most satisfied with the response. When spoken to by one who has farming experience, the farmers had undertaken to take action in 'the directions for which their holdings were most suited, said Mr Nicolaus. Land clearing and land development have been studied in the light of assistance by the State by men frdm widely separated districts and these men had undertakings in mind which would show a definite result in the coming season. Further, some had agreed to plant an acre or two of potatoes, these to he a free gift to various military camps, thus assisting in the national effort.
