WAR COUNCIL
EARLY FORMATION. GOVERNMENT’S PLANS. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, June 14. The Government intends to proceed with the formation of the War Council. This was announced by the Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) to-day. ; “Invitations to join the War Council are being issued to thoroughly representative organisations on the lines I have already indicated,” said the Prime Minister, who added that quite a number of unsolicited recommendations regarding personnel had already been received from the outside. In reply to a question, Mr. Fraser stated that in setting up the War Council the invitation he had extended to the Opposition to appoint three members was still open. Discussing the question of a War Cabinet, Mr Fraser explained that this had been iri existence since the war started in the form of a committee of the Cabinet consisting of the Ministers directly associated with war questions, which were determined in consultation with the heads of the General Staff. / “This system will continue to operate.” said the Prime Minister. “This Cabinet committee can be summoned at a moment’s notice. This has frequently occurred.”
