Air Force Recruits. ‘To facilitate the enlistment of candidates for entry into the Royal New Zealand Air Force it has been decided to make use of the services of Justices of the Peace for attestation. Formerly the men were not attested till they entered the Ground Training School at Levin. The issue of special enlistment badges to persons volunteering in the Air Force has been begun. The only volunteers eligible to wear the badge are those who have been accepted or provisionally accepted but who have not yet been called up and those whose medical standard is below that required -for the Expeditionary Force. Mr Lloyd George’s Jubilee.

It is 50 years since Mr Lloyd. George’s election to the House of Commons for Caernarvon Boroughs, and when he took his seat in April to listen to Mr Churchill on the first operations off Norway he received many congratulations from members of all parties on his anniversary. Mr Lloyd George was actually elected on April 10, 1890, and took his seat in the -House on April 17, the day on which Mr Goschen introduced the Budget of that year. The port of Auckland was closed at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon and all shipping was at a standstill till shortly before 9 o’clock. The Auckland naval control authorities stated that the reason for closing was to enable exercises to be carried out. On the completion of the exercises the traffic of- shipping was resumed. Positive Results. “The most striking feature of the past year’s results has been the number of children for whom vocational occupations have been found,” stated Mr W. G. Black (president), at the annual meeting, last night, of the Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society. The cost of individual treatment had ranged from £25 to £l5O, but he felt that to have brought brightness to any life at such a small outlay involved a very little amount of money indeed. Romney Breeders’ Loan. It was announced by Mr E. R. Black, of Gisborne, president of the ltomne.y Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Association, at the Winter Show, yesterday, that the council of the association had decided to lend, free of interest, £IOOO to' the Government for the duration of the war- and six months afterward. Further, it had been decided to set aside £IOO for patriotic purposes, to be applied as convenient in the coming year.
