MEETING OF COUNCIL. PARSON’S FORD ROAD AVORK. The Pohangina County Council met yesterday, when there were present: Crs. S. J. Strahan (dhairman), \V. Howell, T. E. Craino/AAL AlcKay, H. B. Clapham. P. AV. Jensen and G. Al. Arboli. ' _ _ Mr • T.. Henshaw wrote complaining about the state of the road at Parson’s Ford and asking the council to carry out improvements for settlers there. The engineer (Air D. AVateon) reported that the s road had been metalled and piit in first-class order, blit to make a more satisfactory and permanent job it was necessary to eonstruct a deviation by cutting down a high bank and filling over the gully. This action was approved by the council. Alessrs AA r al!s and Dick, Ridge Road, Apiti, were granted permission to lay a water-pipe, subject to the engineer’s approval. Air D. Paterson, of Apiti, wrote asking the council to have the drain cleaned out and improvements made to the road at his gate.—The engineer was instructed to investigate the matter.The New Zealand Couiitjr Councils Industrial Union of Employers forwarded a copy of the new labourers’ award for rural local bodies. —The clerk (Air A. E. Orgias) said that the award involved only slight increases in wages and that in other respects it was the same as the previous awards.

Air T. J. Paul, of Pohangina, in a letter, requested . attention to the drain fronting the school grounds.— Referred toy the engineer. Cr. AlcKay drew attention to the state of the footpaths in Apiti and asked that they be attended to. The engineer was instructed to purchase a bulldozer for council work.

The report of the engineer said that a good deal of work had been done in roads damaged by floods so as to ensure traffic getting through as quickly as possible. This work would have to be continued and improvements would have to be carried out to the clearances made. A washout near Coal Greek was made reasonably safe for traffic by placing two heavy bridge beams around it. In the Pohangina Riding some .heavy fascine work was necessary to prevent any further erosion at a bend in the Oroua River above the concrete bridge at To Awa, and the work would be attended to without delay. The auto patrol was shaping up Opawe Road, in the Tamakl riding, and on the completion of this the main highway where damaged by washouts would be attended to. A passage for traffic had been kept open tluougli -a creeping slip on highway No. 439 in the Umutoi riding. The financial statement showed a credit in the county fund account, after the payment of accounts, of £7l 8s 9d; in tho cemetery account, £34 8s 10d; plant account, £sl J-s lOd; loan account, £359 10s lid; and in tho loan assets realised account, £450.
