MARION. June 13. Constable J. Bowman, who spent his. annual leave in Auckland, has resumed t Cl The Mayor (Mr F. Purnell)'presided at a meeting of the Marton Borough Council, at which there , were also present Crs. G. B. Gregory, T. E. Barton, A. A. MeIndoe, W B. Winchcombe. J. R. Howard, A. f. B. Siccly and K. A. Williams. The 'gasworks manager , reported that the make of gas for the month was the biggest on rccor.d. The Mayor reported on a meeting with residents on properties adjoining the Centennial Park concerning beautifying plans as they might affect these properties. The residents agreed to co-operate in the matter of boundary fences and hedges. lhe Young Farmers’ Club lias agreed to plant the comping area with. 50 trees and provide a scrub shelter. Mr S. A. R. Mail- has undertaken to select suitable trees for this work. In connection with a letter from the Wanganui Hospital Board, forwarding the board's . balance-sheet and particulars of the levies for the current year, the Mayor commented that the levy was based on the previous valuation, therefore the recent valuation would not help. The levy showed a decrease of £9O on the last one.
