SUBJUGATED DUTCH.
SULLEN RESISTANCE. . . LONDON, June 12. The Times says information reaching London indicates that t-he people of Holland are sullenly resisting all German attempts to appease the general feeling of hatred and anger. The Germans and Dutch traitors are urging the people to start rebuilding for a new future, but no definition is forthcoming to show whether this future is worth the smallest exertion of the subjugated Dutch. The Germans have a big stick for the Dutch resisting their blandishments. A few thousand Dutch prisoners of war were, sent back to their own country, but more are retained in German camps as hostages. . German attempts to employ demobilised Dutch soldiers in the agricultural industries are failing because the landowners are.;: refusing- to take . additional labour, as transport is lacking for produce. The harvest is rotting in the fields. Dutch stubbornness, courage and love of freedom are showing between the lines in the statements, broadcasts and articles of Queen Willielmina’s loyal subjects. -
