GALLANT AIRMAN’S DEATH.

PILOT-OFFICER R. O. LA WRY. Advice that their only son, PilotOfficer Ronald Owen Lawry, had died gallantly in enemy air operations on April 24, was, received' yesterday by Air H. P. Lawry, S.M.. and Airs Lawry, of Palmerston North. On that date Pilot-Officer Lawry was posted missing as a result of air operations. His parents, however, held out hope that all might be well, until they received tlie sad news. The deep: sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to' them. Pilot-Officer Lawry . was 20 years bid. He had been taking, part in /Air Force activities over the North Sea since the start of war. He was in the .aeroplane which sighted the German prison ship Altmarck as it tried to steal down the coast of Norway, and reported its presence. This action Ted to the incident, now famous, in- which the destroyer Cossack intervened and rescued the British seamen who were prisoners on the Altmarck. Pilot-Officer Lawrv was born on the West Coast and educated at the Timaru Boys’ High School. He decided early that he would aflnpt a flying career, and left to join the Air Force when 18 years old.
