LATE MR D. G. WARNER.

The death of Mr Douglas Gerald Warner, oldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Abraham Warner, occurred at the residence of his brother, Mr S. A. Warner, Waitotara, on April 4. The late Mr Warner spent his boyhood in Taranaki and his early school days at the Mouniahaki School and the Patea District High School. There he took up teaching, later going to the Training College, where he loft to go to the war in 1917 at the age of 19. He was severely wounded in France and returned to New Zealand in 1919. After a year recovering lie took up teaching again at Queen’s Park School. Wanganui, but ill-health again caused him to resign for a period of 12 months. On resuming work again he was engaged at sole teacher schools at Moawhango (Taihapo), Hope-lands, Kiritaki and Tokorangi, and at the time of his death was headmaster at Kopane. Mr Warner was a member of the Ruahine Masonic Lodge, Woodville. and a. keen supporter and member of the R.S.A. He was also a keen follower of Rugby and fond of teaching his boy jiupils the finer arts of the game. Five ex-pupils and the chairman of the Hopelands School Committee acted as pall-bearers at the funeral and IS R.S.A. members took part at the burial service, which was conducted by Rev. Mr Stanley, of Waverley. A Masonic service was conducted by Lodge Ruahine. Messages of sympathv and floral tributes from all' the districts where ho had laboured testified to the popularity and esteem in which Mr Warner was held as a teacher and a citizen. There arc left to mourn their loss one brother, Mr S. A. Warner, and four sisters, Miss Muriel Warner (Waitotara) Mrs .T. Foatherston (Raumai), Mrs J ’ Smith (Hamilton) and Mrs J. Potts (Otaki).
