FARMERS’ UNION

CO-OPERATION OF PRODUCERS. SOUTHERN HAWKE’S BAY. The monthly meeting of the Southern Hawke’s Bay provincial executive of the New Zealand Fanners’ Union was held at Danirevirke yesterday, Mr J. C. Bplton presiding. A lengthy circular was received from headquarters concerning a recent meetring of the committee of the -Rimary and Ancillary Industries Producers Council, which had been set up_ to investigate the question of co-ordinating and improving the organisation of farmers. Various recommendations for facilitating .such co-ordination and improvement were set out. These included suggestions that the committee recommended that the various constituent organisations be asked to refer all matters of common interest to the Primary Producers’ Council—particularly such subjects as labour and wages as well as political issues; that it s should be a function of the council to act for primary producers on all questions where, in the unanimous opinion of the executive concerned, action was desirable; that general meetings- of all farmers’ organisations bo called in all centres, more particularly in districts where local awards apply. It was the .desire of the council to obtain the closest cooperation of all farming bodies and to make arrangements for tho closest touch to be kept until the final objective of “one big union” for all primary producers was attained. Members expressed support for the proposal and Mr H. Stratford movedA “That the Dominion president, Mr AV. W. Mulholland, be thanked for his cir eular to all provincial council executives to bring about greater co-opera-tion of primary producing bodies, arm in particular this executive further supports the effort being made by the Dominion executive to bring about the full objective of one big union for all primary producers in the Dominion.” Mr L. Such applications would be considered on their merits, and if approved a .license would be issued. Considerable discussion centred in the question of the delay in manure supplies, it being decided to write to headquarters stating that many orders in Southern Hawke’s Bay were as much as eight weeks behind in arriving, and requesting that efforts be made to speed up production. The president and secretary were appointed a remit committee in connection with the inter-provincial conference. . In connection with the pronosed visit of the Dominion president (Mr AY. AV.
