COUNCIL BUSINESS. At the meeting of the Kiwitea County Council on Wednesday, there were present Crs. L. T. AleLean (chairman), AY. P. Sluiw, D. T. Co u per, W. G. Glapham, A. 8. D’Atli), J. H. Williamson, D. Stent, A. E. Shannon, and F. E. Tappin. Thu Public Works Department advised payment of subsidy on the maintenance of Alai.ti Highways amounting to £5Ol 4s. A letter was received from Air H. J. Dtiigan, requesting the council to consider the question of placing on the coming year’s estimates a sufficient sum to -provide for the elimination of the dangerous corners on the portion of the Ohiiigniti-Peniberton Road between the junction of Alarshall’s Road (adjoining the roadman's wliare) and Marshall township.— It was decided that the overseer be instructed to place a sum on the estimates and to report on the estimated cost at the next meeting ol the council. Special: Paid. £29 14s fid; outstanding, £62 4s sd. Hospital: Paid, £24 11s Id; outstanding. £66 3s sd. The treasurer (Air AY. L. Hesseltine) reported that 99 per cent, of the total amount levied in current rates for the year 1939-10, had been collected, there being oplv £lB6 outstanding. Air Hesscltine stated that there were main highways subsidies to come in before the'end of the month and, despite expense in connection with the recent flood damage in the county, the financial position was sound and highly satisfactory. The subsidies amounted to £2900.
