TEACHERS’ LOYALTY
‘ REAFFIRMED IN OTAGO. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 20. Despite reports and rumours to the contrary, a firm belief in the loyalty of teachers in its district was expressed this morning by the Otago Education Board. The subject came up for discussion when the chairman (Mr J. Wallace) said that, in view of statements which had appeared in the Press, he had framed the following resolution: “As some apprehension had been caused by recent statements which have appeared to reflect on the loyalty of teachers, the hoard desires to state that it has no doubt whatever about the loyalty of its teachers.” Air C. E. Richards said that there were some teachers who had been disloyal. He admitted he did not know of any specific cases himself, but representations had been made to him j to that effect. Other members declared j that no such cases had been brought to their notice, several stating that I the fact that some teachers did not i conform to general ideas did not necessarily mean that they were disloyal. The senior inspector (Mr T. A. Aforland) said that in the course of visiting schools over Iff years he had not come across any instances of disloyalty l among the teachers. . | The motion was carried, the chairman saying that loose statements had caused all "this discussion.
