SPECTACULAR BLAZE.
SABOTAGE SUSPECTED. Received March 21. 11.50 a.m. • MELBOURNE, March 21. In one of the most spectacular fires seen in. Melbourne for years, thousands of gallons of petrol, kerosene, crude oil and lubricating oil at the Vacuum Oil Company’s depot at the Spotswood railway siding, near the mouth of the Yarra. were lost late last, night. Sabotage is suspected. Over two hundred explosions were heard during the fire. Hundreds of police and military guards threw a cordon around the depot, and soldiers with fixed bayonets liehl hack a crowd estimated at twenty thousand because of the danger of the flames spreading to the huge main containers. The fuel destroyed was housed in galvanised iron sheds.
