SIGMUND FREUD.

NOTED PSYCHOLOGIST’S DEATH. LONDON, Sept. 24. The death has occurred at his home in Hampstead of Sigmund Freud, one of the most famous modern scientists. He was 74 years of age and was exiled from Austria when Germany annexed that country. Dr. Freud was the most noted exponent of psycho-analysis and his theories have had a profound influence on modern thought. Sigmund Freud was the founder of psycho-analysis. He was born, of Jewish extraction, in Freiberg, Moravia, on May 6, 1856. At tho ago of four he went to Vienna. Ho felt no inclination to medical work, being more interested in purely scientific research. In 1885, Freud went to Paris to study for more than a year under the great neurologist Charcot, whose moral support strengthened his determination in the then revolutionary step of investigating hysteria from a psychological point of view. For 10 years Freud worked alone at psycho-analysis. About 1906 he was joined by a number of colleagues, who met in 1908 at the first international congress of psycho-analysis, since then a biennial institution. Two years later an international association was founded, which now has branches in most countries of the world. On his seventieth birthday, Freud was the recipient of congratulations from learned societies in various parts of the world and was accorded tho freedom of Vienna.
