(From Our Own Correspondent.) PONTON/Sept. 23. The quarterly meeting of the Foxton Fire Board was presided over by Mr A. H.: Clarke. Also present were Messrs FI. E. Perreau, J. It. Middleton, S. It. Small, L. Monkman and the secretary (Mr It. Rangihoiioa).. Mr Perreau reirorted that the local committee had gone into the question of sounding the siren daily for testing purposes, but did not recommend this.—Endorsed. Mr L. H. Hutton (Wellington) wrote tendering his resignation as a member of the board in view of his appointment to two Wairarapa lire boards. The chairman made reference to the excellent service rendered the local board by Mr Hutton. The superintendent (Mr E. Anderson) reported that for the half-year ended September 33 there were three calls attend, but in no case were they of an alarming nature. Members of the Foxton Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee assembled on Thursday afternoon to meet Mr W. A. Jameson, secretary of the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation and Miss N. Thomson and Mr L. McNicoj, area recreational .instructors, who weffc visiting Foxton to discuss matters pertaining to physical welfare and recreation. Mr Jameson stressed the Government's desire for the local committees 1o carry on with the Recreation Week celebrations. The chairman of the local committee (Mr M. E. Perreau), in replying to Air Jameson, said that the outbreak of war had disorganised the arrangements for celebrating Recreation Week, but now the Government had assisted by sending their representatives to discuss the position with the committee he felt that the position had been considerably clarified, and a resolution was passed tliat the committee carry on and colebrato Recreation Week on the lines previously suggested.
