OBITUARY.

MRS G. H. ELLIOTT.

A life which had been devoted to her home and the upbringing of her children ended on September 19 with the passing of Mrs E. Elliott, wife of Mr G. H. Elliott, of Milford Road. The deceased lady, who had a par- ■ ticularly unselfish attitude toward I life, was 69 years of age. j When Mrs Elliott was but a girl • she accompanied her parents to New Zealand from England, Yorkshire being the county of her birth. The family resided at Christchurch, and it 1 was there that she married in 1893. She lived in that city until 1906, when Mr Elliott was appointed art master at the High School and the Technical School in .Palmerston North. Except for about 18 months, when her husband was engaged on an overseas trip, Mrs Elliott had resided 'here from that time onward, her period of absence being spent at Napier. Mrs Elliott was an active member of the Baptist Church, and it was in church circles that she found most of I her interests outside her home. She I was one of the members who worked assiduously for the raising of the funds for the building of the present church, in Palmerston North, and she and her husband claimed to be among the oldest, if not the oldest, members of the church as husband and wife, having joined in 1906. It was also! through the church that Mrs Elliott made contacts with soldiers in training at the camp at Awapuni at the time of the* Great War, and her home became known for its hospitality, to which the men in uniform- were always welcome. Many were her acts of kindness to those about to go overseas. Five children were horn of the marriage. The eldest, Mr V. I). Elliott, died in the Great War. The remaining sons are Messrs G. F. Elliott (Taranaki), R. A. Elliott (Hastings), and W. L. Elliott (Fitzherbert), The daughter, Miss Grace M. Elliott, resides at the home in Milford Road. The many expressions of sympathy received by the family testified to the high esteem in which the late Mrs Elliott was held. MRS W. WILLIAMSON. An outstanding fondness for ! gardening and a great love of flowers were features in the life of the late Mrs Mary Williamson, wife of Mr W. Williamson, of Ferguson Street, who passed away on September 14 in a private hospital. The late Mrs Williamson enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing the surroundings of her home transformed from a rough state to an unusually attractive garden, and it was in this that she found some of her greatest, pleasures. The late Mrs Williamson, the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs P. Innes (Feilding), was born in Lincoln (Christchurch) and her girlhood days were spent at Elgin (Ashburton). She was married at Hawera, and the first home of her married life was at Normanby, where she and her husband resided for several years. From thena Mr Williamson came to Palmerston North over 30 years ago, and for nearly all of the time since the family lia-ve resided in their present home in Ferguson Street.

In addition to her husband, Mrs Williamson leaves four daughters, Mesdames C. V. Ciochetto (Palmerston North), N. Stouppe (Christchurch), ,T. Jardine (Auckland) and Miss J. Williamson (Palmerston North). A son passed away about 15 years ago. Mrs A. Williamson (Feilding) is a sister, and Sir J Innrs (Palmerston North) is a brother. There are three grandchildren.
