OBITUARY.
MR E. g: SPRAGGON. . A highly respected resident, Mr Ed r ward G. Spraggon, of- Dahlia Street, passed away recently. The late Air Spraggon was horn at Caversham, Dunedin, and , left for London with his parents while still ahoy, his father being engaged as a buyer for Messrs Herbert Haynes. Air Spraggon, junior, was; educated at the City of London School, and was then apprenticed to the well-known firm of Debenbani and Freebody's. On returning to New Zealand he joined the firm of D. Benjamin, later becoming its North Island traveller. He next took up a Government position under the National Provident Fund. He was transferred to Napier, where he received serious injuries in the 1931 earthquake. He was then transferred to the Labour Department office in Palmerston North, where he remained •till his last illness, which began in April. Air Spraggon was of a retiring disposition. He was an enthusiastic athlete in his youth and was a particularly keen cricketer, playing for Carisbrook and in many inter-provincial matches. He was well known in Otago as “Carisbrook’s Crack” or “Dashing Dick.” He was a member of the Operatic Society and of the Savage Club in Palmerston North, was fond of reading and took a great interest in children, one of his chief delights being the making of toys for his numerous small friends. Besides his widow, he . leaves one son, Air E. Spraggon, of Dunedin.
