LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
. GENEVA NOW DEFENDED. LONDON, Sept. S. Geneva, the “city of peace,” has been taken over as one of the Swiss defended frontier towns.* The long corridors of the Palace of Nations are almost deserted since more than 100 employees have departed in response to the Swiss call to arms. The experts of the League Disarmament Section were compelled to empty their own wastepaper baskets yesterday, and must dust their own desks. jt is stated officially that the League authorities do not intend at present to move from Geneva, although it is admitted that all eventualities cannot he foreseen. Circumstances might arise that would impel reconsideration of the whole problem, but at the moment it is correct to say that Geneva will remain the League’s headquarters. Discussions are expected to take place as to the role the League miglu play in making a peace effort. Discussions are still continuing by tlie League of Nations, but the Secre-tary-General, M. Avenol, stated that, in view of the hostilities, certain League activities must bo suspended.
