CHINESE GOLD RUSH.
NEW ZEALANDER’S STORY. NEW YORK, Sept. 22. The New \ r ork Times Chungking correspondent says: When returning from North-West Szechuan, in the vicinity of Sungpan, Mr Rcwi Alley, of New Zealand, technical adviser to the Chinese Industrial Co-operatives, described scenes similar to the Klondike rush. He said the quantity of gold in the hills and streams was enormous. ‘ Mr Alley is organising and pacifying fierce tribesmen whose hostility hitherto has prevented the exploitation of the area. Thousands are flocking and boom towns / are springing up overnight.
