YESTERDAY’S CHIEF RESULTS. Received August 16, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 15. No visiting New Zealanders were engaged at the Ascot races to-day. Housemaster, who is a consistent placegetter, finished second in the first division of the Ascot Handicap, won by Lithgow. Young Carrington was third in the Jumpers’ Flat Race. Widden, by Veilmond from Quaver, won the Threc-Year-Old Trial Stakes. Montague, by Wallace Isinglass from the New Zealand mare Sleepless, won the Progressive Handicap. At Melbourne, the first division of the Yarborough Handicap for three-year-olds was won by Mr J. Fryer’s Manttrere by five lengths. The second division was won by Mr A. D. Webster’s Glaciate by threequarters of a length. At Brisbane, at the Queensland Turf Club’s meeting, the following was the result of the METROPOLITAN HANDICAP, of £ISOO. One mile and a-half. SEVEN FIFTY. 9.0 (McCarten) ... 1 SCULPTOR, 8.9 (Selwood) 2 RAGOPAN, 8.9 (Briscoe) ... 3 Eight started. Four lengths; a head. Time, 2.35 L TRACK PERFORMANCES. New Zealand horses in Sydney for tho spring racing carnivals have been performing very welt in their track trials, Defaulter, Te He C, Olympus, Beau Ropaire, Moorsotis and Peerless showing excellent form. Defaulter shamed the sprinters by running half a mile in 482SCC. lie is in very forward condition. Peerless ran six furlongs in 1.21 2 , moving very easily. Te Hero, who is a most popular selection for the Epsom Handicap, and carried a heavy jockey, ran the best five furlongs of the morning, in 1.4*. Moorsotis and Beau Repaire were clocked to run the same distance in 1.4 a. Olympus covered half a mile in 51sec. Last year* Metropolitan Handicap winner, Royal Chief, has been cased up temporarily, having wrenched a leg when he pulled off a shoe while training.
