CENTENNIAL STAMPS.
The work of engraving the dies for the centennial postage stamp issue has been completed. The Id stamp features Captain James Cook’s rediscovery of New’ Zealand in 1769. The denomination commemorates Abel Tasman s discovery of New Zealand in December, 1642. The 2fd denomination marks the signing of the ’treaty of AVaitangi on February 6, 3840; featuring a Maori council assembled before a meeting house, the 7d denomination marks the importance of Maori contributions to Polynesian culture: the period of goldmining and the development of the industry are featured in the 9d denomination.
