GOVERNOR-GENERAL.

SIR L. HALSEY MENTIONED. “TURN OF THE NAVY.” By this time next year New Zealand will have another Governor-Gen-eral, and Lord Galway already has begun his farewell visits, says a writer in the London Daily Telegraph. His successor possibly may be a New Zealander, though I understand that this is not very likely. If the new Governor-General comes from the Old Country he may well be a sailor again. Lord Jellicoe was succeeded by Sir Charles Fergusson, a soldier, and by Lord Bledisloo, a farmer. Lord Galway also is a soldier, so it is perhaps the Navy’s turn again. A very popular choice would be Admiral Sir Lionel Halsey, who commanded H.M.S. New Zealand on her cruise to the Dominion in 1913 and also visited the country with the then Prince of Wales (now the Duke of Windsor). He stated recently that, but for the war, he would almost certainly have settled in New Zealand.

Both he and Lady Halsey fell in love with the country when the admiral was stationed in Australian and New Zealand waters.
